Counter-Strike is yet another gem in the Valve library, the same studio behind the instant classic Half-Life. The game received numerous positive reviews for its team-vs. team-gameplay, where one side would act as the terrorists while the other side acted as the counter-terrorist group. How could this already successful franchise be improved? Counter-Strike: Source for the PC, that’s how.
Source keeps the same style of gameplay intact: choose a group and win more rounds than the opposing team. Rounds range from specified missions to outright obliterating your competition. Everything else is completely revamped to create a better gameplay experience. Shooting mechanics have been improved for more realism — for example, moving while shooting can decrease your accuracy. The behavior of certain weapons, such as grenades, has also been ramped up. Counter-Strike: Source also features eye-catching graphics: water will now show a reflection, and shadows have been added to make objects and characters look more realistic.
Sometimes, tweaking something that’s already great leaves a nasty taste in your mouth. Counter-Strike: Source for the PC only improves upon things for the better, creating a version of the game that both developers and gamers can be proud of.
